May 7th: From Lomza to Ostrava

We hopped on the bus at 9 am and headed to the Czech Republic. We travelled through the beautiful Poland and its capital Varsaw. We took a couple of breaks for eating, changing money etc.

After a nine hour bus journey we finally arrived in Ostrava, the third biggest city in the Czech Republic. The city was littered with ruins of old factories that were shut down once and for all in 1998, causing an awful lot of unemployment. To be honest, the city looked a bit creepy and made us concerned about what kind of place we were going to spend our night at.

As we saw the hostel, a furious cockroach conversation was evoked. The building was old and looked questionable, to say the least. What is more, we were welcomed by an old lady who didn't speak a word of English. To our big amusement and relief rooms were really clean and nice because the hostel was recently renovated. You should never judge a book by its cover.

The city didn't have that much to offer. Some of us took a tram downtown or even walked to a local shopping centre and the rest spent their evening walking around just to realise that there wasn't anything interesting near our hostel, except for a restaurant and a few stores.
