Visiting Pirna (14.5.)

Hello, good evening, good afternoon, whenever you are reading this blog!

A couple of days ago we were travelling towards Berlin and on the way there we visited this lovely town Pirna. It's a German town with about 37.000 inhabitants next to the border of the Czech Republic. While we were there, we went to visit the Pestalozzi School Pirna with classes from 5-10. Our contact teacher there was Petra Jakob who with his husband Wolfgang is a great friend of Finland and who readily cooperates with our school in various ways. There we had a tour around the school by two most charming students, and they had even cooked us a very tasty meal with desserts, showing the Saxon hospitality.

After the meal we had a guided tour on foot over the River Elbe and around the beautifully renovated old town with its pride Town Church St Mary. Extensive reconstruction was necessary especially after the devastating flooding of the Elbe in 2002. Finally we climbed up to Sonnenstein Castle, where our bus was waiting for us to continue our trip towards Berlin.
