Our experiences in Prague

Prague is full of different kinds of museums and sights. We saw many of them but unfortunately we didn't have enough time to see them all.

On the first day we walked to St. Vitus Cathedral and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. There were a lot of other tourists, too, especially Asians. After seeing the cathedral, we headed to the Old Town and the astronomic clock. To get there, we had to cross the Charles Bridge which is famous for its statues.

The Old Town and the Charles Bridge also seemed to be popular among tourists. We were warned about pickpockets and luckily we didn't have to deal with them.  All in all, the Old Town was very beautiful with it's amazing old buildings.

There was also a tourist street called Havetśka in the centre. Most of us went there and saw plenty of different kinds of vendors who sold everything useless, for example, matches as big as my little finger nail.

Some of us visited the Jewish cemetery and museum. There were especially many Jews there. The atmosphere there was very pious and you could feel a sense of community. It was very impressive to see the names of almost 80 000 victims of the Holocaust on the walls of one of the synagogues. It was especially horrible to see young people's names there. It wasn't nice either to know that the day that was after the date of birth wasn't the date of death but the day the person was seen the last time. The cemetery was also such an experience. It is estimated that approximately 20,000 Jews have been buried in quite a small area.

The Czech food is worth tasting. Not all of us liked the food but at least we got a new experience. There were pork and beef made in the Czech way and "normal" chicken and french fries in our restaurant. Many of us also tasted the  traditional Czech sweet pastry called Trdelník. It's  a tasty bun which is made above burning coals and inside the bun people can get for example strawberries, chocolate and whipped cream.

In the Czech Republic, like in central Europe in general, people stay out longer and have a beer or two. Alltogether it seems that people enjoy each other more there.
